South Suburban Ladies Masters Open & B Grade Singles

The numbers were down on last year but the quality of darts certainly wasn’t.

The ladies competed in 2 groups.  Winning group one was Natalie Carter with Angela Clarke finishing second.  The group two winner was Lee-Anne Watkins with Edwina Dryden finishing second.

In the first semi-final Natalie played Edwina, both girls performing really well and hitting the pegs.  The match went to the wire with Edwina putting away the winning peg.  Edwina Dryden (22.21) 4, Natalie Carter (23.07) 3.  In the second semi Lee-Anne played Angela, both ladies had been playing really strong darts throughout the round robin stage, but Angela showed maturity and took out the pegs whenever the opportunity arose.  Angela Clarke (21.59) 4, Lee-Anne Watkins (17.87)1.

The final was always going to be a good match with both ladies playing strong, steady darts already.  A really exciting match to watch with everything down to the last leg.  Final result Edwina Dryden 5 Angela Clark 4.  Wonderful to see a new face winning an open event.  Watch out ladies, Edwina means business.

There were 3 180’s hit, 2 by Lee-Anne and 1 by Natalie.  The highest peg in the open was 116 from Cherie Chirlarski.

The B grade players were split into two groups and played a full round robin.  Group one winner was Roz Reimers with Leeanne Johnson finishing second.  In group two the  victor was Di Hopkins with Jannine Pink the runner up.  In the first semi final Jannine missed a shot at the double and Roz pegged to win 2-1.  In the second semi Leeane and Di also went to the final leg with Leeanne (who happened to win this event last year) finishing on top.

The final score doesn’t reflect the closeness of the match, both ladies playing well but Leeanne finding the pegs elusive.  Final score Roz 2, Leeane 0.

Thanks to South Suburban Ladies for hosting and sponsoring the event, and to the 8 ball club for providing the venue.
